This week has been rather strange. It seems as if this week has been hellbent on having me recover old friendships.

I’ve been receiving a lot of text messages this week, all from the people from the past. From two friends from college, and two friends from high school. It was funny, hearing from them since it was about the last thing I expected to happen. They were also people I never really expected to hear from them.

And then this morning, I received a bunch of friend requests from people I don’t know. I let them sit for a while until I finally realized that the people trying to add me were my classmates when I was in the second grade. I was really happy about it since I’ve been trying to find them for a long time.

It’s rather strange, though. In a funny way.

My cat is in heat again. She kept me up until 4:00AM with all her yowling. No matter how much I love that little creature, a cat in heat is probably the most irritating thing I have ever encountered. At 4:00AM, I’d had enough. I grabbed Missy and her kitty bed, and transferred her to my brother’s room who, unlike me, sleeps like a log. How he slept through Missy’s constant meowing, I have absolutely no idea. So I’ve been acting like an irritable zombie the whole day. Thank heavens it’s Saturday.

On the plus side, because of all her yowling I ended up finishing The Reader in one sitting. It’s a great book, and I might end up writing a review on it soon. The books I ordered from a local bookstore’s online shop also arrived today.

However, I found another book that I definitely want to read soon. I wonder if it’s available here. I was looking at the New York Times bestseller list when I saw Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. When I read the background, my first thought was, “Jane Austen must be turning in her grave.” It looks interesting, though, and I’d like to read it, especially since it received fairly favorable reviews.

Update: It’s available in the Philippines! I might end up getting it later this week.

I’ve been reading a lot lately, and I’ve also realized that I’ve been buying a lot of new books. So I’ve decided to put up a booklog here in the site. At first, I thought of starting a booklog in preparation for those 20+ books in 12 months memes. In the end, I decided against it, since I don’t want to be pressured into reading books for the sake of accomplishing a specific number of reads.

Last night, I decided to try buying online from National Bookstore, using a credit card. I ordered Atonement by Ian McEwan, and The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. I’m currently waiting for the order to be approved and shipped out. Thankfully, I haven’t seen the film adaptations for these novels, so I still don’t know what to expect. I’ve downloaded torrents of the films, so I’ll see the movies after I read the books.

This week’s question from Booking Through Thursday:

“Life is too short to read bad books.” I’d always heard that, but I still read books through until the end no matter how bad they were because I had this sense of obligation.

That is, until this week when I tried (really tried) to read a book that is utterly boring and unrealistic. I had to stop reading.

Do you read everything all the way through or do you feel life really is too short to read bad books?

It really depends on how bad the book is. Seriously, there are books that are so bad, you just have to put them down after the first chapter, but there are still some bad books that I can stomach. There are moments when I find a book boring, but I still feel a twinge of curiosity – like I want to find out what happens in the end, no matter how badly written it is. That’s when I end up finishing a bad book – but not without skipping a few chapters. But I guess that doesn’t really qualify as reading all the way through.
